If you find yourself in an accident one of the hardest things to do is try to remain calm. However, by taking slow deep breaths before exiting your vehicle, you can actually calm your nerves which will allow you to assess the situation in rational manner.
After you have calmed your nerves, the next thing to do is check to make sure everyone within your vehicle is okay, if they are injured, immediately call 911 for medical assistance. However, if everyone in your car is safe without obvious injuries, still call emergency as some wounds may not show to the untrained eye.
Finally, if at all possible check the passengers in the other car as well. Remember when approaching the other vehicle to stay off the road to avoid another accident.
Once you have checked on the passengers of the other vehicle, if they are coherent, be certain to exchange insurance information. This is very important, even if it is a small accident where nobody is hurt. You want to make sure everything is documented for your insurance company.
While you are waiting for the emergency crew and police to arrive, call your insurance company and inform them of the accident, this will allow them to start the process for any medical and or vehicular damage to be addressed.
Finally if your car needs to be towed, remember Maryland State law allows you to choose who tows your vehicle and if you want a tow just give us a call, we’ll dispatch someone right away.
